Program Description

Program Description

Program Description

This pint-sized Kindergarten-5th grade private learning farm is situated on a beautiful 3-acre site in the Lorane Valley, on the edge of Eugene, Oregon. The programs integrate farming practices, animal care, responsible choices, and making things (FARM) with science, technology,  engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), and CCSS-aligned academics to create naturally engaging learning opportunities.

With small groups of 5-7 students and two full-time teachers, instruction is delivered in kindergarten through 2nd grade and 3rd through 5th grade groupings to best address student learning needs.  Classes  range from gardening lessons science and social studies to music, Spanish and art lessons.  Individualized academic instruction is delivered at a student's present level or above.

Those students enrolled in monitored academic courses follow a process to ensure instruction meets the child's needs.  This results in an instructional level based on grade-level knowledge rather than age.

After initial academic placement, students are supported as they move forward with self-paced units combining STEAM-infused CCSS-aligned academic content presented in a project-based manner.

Monitored Academic Offerings

Background

Program Description

Program Description

Thoughtful questions from parents and adventurous interactions with children at the first round of Mind-Full Meadows summer camps shifted Tiffany's plans from simply leading camps to altering her career and developing a learning space like no other.  By taking a leap and collaborating with students and and parents alike, Mind-Full Meadows became the home to a developing STEAM-Powered Learning Farm!

Circumstances in our world and our state are such that all of us have taken the time to think very creatively about how we can best meet the educational and social-emotional needs of the children in our lives.  The benefits of of an education founded in a robust relationship with the natural environment are many, and the integration of FARM concepts with a rigorous STEAM framework results in highly engaged learning.

FAQs and Details

  • Does MFM follow Oregon’s education framework including state testing, and Common Core?
    • Yes, all instruction adheres to the state instructional guidelines.  The foundation is the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which guide the development of complexity of thought and shape the curriculum progression as students move K-12.   We also use:
    • FARM - Farming practices, Animal care, Responsible choices, and Making things
    • STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics
    • AEIOU - Ask questions, Engage fully in the learning process, Integrate new information, Open your mind to diverse views, Utilize what you learn

  • What does instruction time look like between age groups at MFM, and are all of the students together during instruction from time to time?
    • The instructional cohorts are primarily organized K-2, 3-5.
    • Student groups address the needs of currently enrolled students.  This allows us to base the size and composition of the groups on student’s present levels, and the flexibility to respond to their rate of development.
    • Friday's STEAM Projects time is a K-5th grade creative tech collaboration when we have multi-age collaboration on projects, to discuss experiments, and to give feedback.
